What is Disc Dogging?

Disc Dooging is a exciting and varying
sport, perfect for active and fit dogs and their owners. You play with special dogdiscs. These are smaller, more soft and flexible then human discs. The basics are: throw a disc, the dog catchs it and brings it back to you.

Beside the throw and catch game you can also do several tricks with the disc and the dog. For example vaults, where the dog jumps up from your body and then catchs the disc. There are also a lot of different throwing techniks which keeps the game exciting and varying.

Here is a small guide about how to start this game with your dog:

When to start?
You shouldn't start to play dogfrisbee until your dog is full grown. This is between the 15th and 18th Month. Moreover you should make a health check up at the vet so you can be sure your dog is fit and healthy to play this sport. You can start doing rollers and motivationgames with your puppy..its a good way to make this game interesting and get the dog conditioned on the disc. But no high jumps with puppys!!!!

How do we start?
Disc Dogging is all about fun with the dog outside on the fresh air!
You don't need much start. Your dog should be able to fetch, it should like to move and most important your dog has to be healthy and in good shape! Now you need a plain greenfield that is big enough an some discs.
Now you can start! But before you go to the long distance throws or the tricks you should warm up your dog. There are several methods to do that, for example: Pet your dog intensively, that relaxes and warms up
the muscles. You can also throw some rollers for your dog.
A roller is a throw where the disc rolls over the flor and theu do not have a  dog catchs it from the flor without jumping for it. Or you can trot with your dog so that he warms up.

How long can we play?
This sport is pretty exhausting for the dog and so one session shouldn't take longer then 5minutes. you can do 2 sessions a day, not more. Otherwise you can  overstress especially untrained dogs.

Anything else?
Its very important to bring enough water for your dog
! After the session or even between it you should allow your dog to drink. If you don't have a travelling bowl you can also use the disc as a bowl. Now there is only one golden rule left until you can really get it started: "You stop the game, not the dog. Let the game end when its most fun!"
You should take that to heart because 1. you shouldn't overcharge your dog and 2. so you keep your dog motivated for the game!

So what? Could we convent you to that great sport? If yes we are happy and wish you and your dog a lot of fun in playing! It is still is very important that you, the thrower, is routined in throwing the disc safely for your dog! A dog doesn't care how safe the throw is, its your responsibility to control your throws. Therefor you
should practise it with a human partner first or join a disc dogging seminar!
